The Inside Passage carried coastal steamers, canneries, freighters and gold-rush traffic through narrow channels between Vancouver Island and the mainland.
Fog, tidal rapids and uncharted rock claimed steamers on the Seymour Narrows and Graveyard of the Pacific approaches; many wrecks lie in cold, clear, well-preserving water.
