HMCS Annapolis
Destroyer · Canada · Lost 2015 · The British Columbia Coast
After a seven-year legal battle over toxic hull paint, this retired Canadian destroyer was finally scuttled in Howe Sound's Halkett Bay in 2015.

The Vessel and Her Loss
HMCS Annapolis, an Annapolis-class helicopter-carrying destroyer commissioned in 1964, served the Royal Canadian Navy until decommissioning in 1996. Purchased in 2008 by the Artificial Reef Society of British Columbia, her conversion into a reef was delayed for seven years by changing federal regulations and a court challenge from a marine-park protection group concerned about toxic hull paint. After a federal court dismissed those concerns, she was scuttled off Gambier Island in Halkett Bay Marine Provincial Park on April 4, 2015.
