The Vessel and Her Loss
SS Bayeskimo was built in 1922 for the Hudson's Bay Company to supply fur trade posts in Labrador and Hudson Strait. On July 23, 1925, she was holed by ice and sank in Hudson Strait. Her crew and passengers escaped onto the ice and were rescued by the company's ship Nascopie. The wreck was documented in period Hudson's Bay Company records and, more recently, in a family photograph collection donated to the Scottish Maritime Museum.
