HMS Juno
Frigate · Great Britain · Lost 1778 · Narragansett Bay & the Rhode Island Coast
A British frigate that traded fire with the escaping Continental frigate Providence, later scuttled in Coddington Cove to keep her from the French fleet.

The Vessel and Her Loss
HMS Juno was a 32-gun British frigate on blockade duty at Newport during the Revolutionary War. In April 1778 she fired on the Continental Navy frigate Providence as it ran the British blockade. Four months later, with a French fleet entering Narragansett Bay, Juno was deliberately sunk in Coddington Cove near Newport on 5 August 1778 alongside three sister frigates to keep her from capture.
