The Vessel and Her Loss
Hinckley was built at Chaumont in 1901 and later enlarged. It carried coal between New York and Canadian ports. On its final voyage from Fairhaven to Gananoque, worsening leaks forced it toward shore. It grounded near Stony Island in July 1929 without loss of life.
