The Vessel and Her Loss
The 169-foot German freighter Havel was built in 1968, renamed Olive M. in 1977, and hauled goods between Florida, the Bahamas and Haiti before she was sunk on July 16, 1987, in about 95 feet of water off Boynton Beach, Florida, as an artificial reef. Because Budweiser helped pay for the sinking, divers know the site as the Budweiser Bar, or simply Bud Bar.
