The Vessel and Her Loss
The Cleveco was a steel tank barge built in 1913 and carrying crude oil on Lake Erie under tow. In a severe December gale in 1942 the tug towing her foundered, and the barge was lost with all aboard. Her inverted hull lies off Euclid, and the oil she carried was removed in a later recovery operation.
