C-58 General Anaya
Minesweeper · Mexico · Lost 2000 · The Mexican Gulf Coast & Campeche
A former US Navy minesweeper and long-serving Mexican Navy vessel, sunk in 2000 off Cancún and later split in two by Hurricane Wilma.

The Vessel and Her Loss
Built in Portland, Oregon, in 1944 as USS Harlequin, this Admirable-class minesweeper served the US Navy in the Atlantic during World War II. Sold to Mexico in 1962, she had a long and varied naval career, later converted into an oceanographic research vessel and then a school ship before being renamed ARM General Pedro María Anaya. In May 2000, alongside sister ship C-55, she was deliberately sunk off Isla Mujeres to create an artificial reef. Hurricane Wilma broke the wreck into two sections in 2005, and it remains a popular advanced dive site.
