The Vessel and Her Loss
Launched in 1977 as the offshore oilfield supply vessel Vulcano del Golfo, the ship later worked as a commercial fishing vessel before Bay County sank her as an artificial reef in 1993. Renamed Black Bart in honor of Navy salvage officer and diving advocate Captain Charles Bartholomew, she rests upright off Panama City Beach with accessible holds, wheelhouse, and galley.
