The Vessel and Her Loss
Built in 1972, Ana Cecilia carried freight and, in 2012, completed a rare humanitarian voyage from Miami to Havana. In 2015, federal agents found cocaine valued at more than ten million dollars aboard, and the ship was seized and donated to Palm Beach County. On 13 July 2016 she was scuttled off Singer Island as the county's 151st artificial reef, carrying memorial plaques for several local residents lost at sea.
