The Vessel and Her Loss
Built in 1945 at Burrard Dry Dock as Cromwell Park, the ship was later renamed Harmac Vancouver and finally Amaryllis under Greek ownership. On September 7, 1965, seeking shelter from Hurricane Betsy, she suffered steering failure and ran aground on Singer Island, Florida. She remained a beached attraction for three years before being towed offshore and sunk as an artificial reef on August 22, 1968. The site is now part of the Palm Beach Wreck Trek.
