The Vessel and Her Loss
Vesper was a 145-foot wooden steamer built in Wilmington, Delaware, in 1871 that spent her career running freight and passengers on the Chesapeake out of Baltimore. From the 1900s into the late 1920s she carried wheat, sacked grain, and passengers along the Choptank River between Baltimore, Denton, and Greensboro. She sank in the Choptank around 1930, and her remains lie on the river's east side just below Denton.
