The Vessel and Her Loss
Stavronikita was a Greek cargo freighter damaged by fire in the mid-1970s. Rather than scrap her, the Barbados government acquired the hulk and deliberately sank her off the island's west coast in 1978 to serve as an artificial reef. She now stands upright on the seabed and is one of Barbados's most popular wreck dive sites.
