The Vessel and Her Loss
Launched in 1883 as the Dunbar Castle, this steel steamer passed through several owners and names before joining the Alaska Steamship Company as Olympia in 1904. On December 10, 1910, she ran aground on Bligh Reef in Prince William Sound and was wrecked without loss of life. Steamboat inspectors afterward found her master, Captain Daniels, guilty of unskillful navigation.
