The Vessel and Her Loss
Kitsap ran the Seattle-Poulsbo route for the Kitsap County Transportation Company. On the foggy afternoon of December 14, 1910, she was struck on the port bow by the larger steamer Indianapolis shortly after leaving Pier 4. Her crew and passengers crossed safely onto the Indianapolis before Kitsap filled with water and sank to about 220 feet, one of the deeper documented sinkings in Elliott Bay. She was raised the following year by the Seattle diving firm Henry Finch and Sons.
