The Vessel and Her Loss
Sheboygan was built at Manitowoc in 1869 by Greenleaf S. Rand as an oak side-wheel passenger and package freight steamer. She served Goodrich on Lake Michigan’s western shore until July 1914, although much of her final two years was spent moored at Manitowoc. After machinery and other valuables were removed, she was towed from the harbor and beached two miles north of town on September 24, 1914. Intentionally set ablaze that afternoon, she burned for most of the night.
