The Vessel and Her Loss
Santa Margarita was a Spanish galleon sailing with the Tierra Firme treasure fleet in 1622. She sank in the same hurricane that destroyed her fleetmate Atocha near the Marquesas Keys on 6 September 1622. Most of those aboard were lost. Mel Fisher's salvage team located and recovered treasure from her wreck beginning in 1980.
