The Vessel and Her Loss
Erastus Lockwood built the two-masted schooner S.L. Noble at Fairport, Ohio, in 1846; at loss she was owned in Racine. On November 16, 1868, after loading cordwood at T.F. Gillilland's pier at Clay Banks, she was trapped by a southeast gale and pounded on the shallow bottom until it was destroyed. By November 18 a correspondent at Ahnapee reported she had gone to pieces at the pier.
