The Vessel and Her Loss
The two-masted schooner S.B. Paige was built at Oshkosh, Wisconsin, in 1863 for A. Day and Company. In September 1907, carrying 30 cords of shingle bolts from Fish Creek, Captain Alfred Graham anchored at the mouth of Sturgeon Bay in a northwest rainstorm. Her anchors failed and she was driven onto the sandy middle ground, settling in about six feet of water. Lifesavers took her two men ashore, and winter ice completed the wreck.
