The Vessel and Her Loss
Dwight W. Simpson built the wooden-hulled diesel ferry Roosevelt II at Nyack, New York, launching her on September 1, 1923, for the Plattsburgh-Grand Isle Ferry Company. She crossed Lake Champlain for that company until 1937, then for the Champlain Transportation Company and, from 1948, the Lake Champlain Transportation Company, which scuttled her in 1959. Her name is still visible on her stern and pilothouse.
