The Vessel and Her Loss
Built in 1903, the wooden tug Robert C. Pringle was towing the steamer Venezuela early on June 19, 1922, about 12 miles north of Sheboygan when she struck an unknown object, possibly driftwood. She began to fill rapidly, and her crew abandoned her when water reached the boiler room. The Venezuela took them aboard and landed them at Manitowoc. With her old wooden bottom believed soft with age, there was little hope of raising her.
