The Vessel and Her Loss
Our Son was a three-masted wooden schooner built in 1875, still carrying cargo under sail long after most of her kind were gone. On 26 September 1930, loaded with pulpwood, she was overwhelmed in a gale off Sheboygan. The steamer William Nelson came alongside and took off all seven crew. She was among the last commercial sailing vessels on the lakes.
