The Vessel and Her Loss
Noquebay was a wooden schooner barge built in 1872 and used to move lumber under tow on Lake Superior. On 6 October 1905 fire broke out in her cargo off the Apostle Islands. Those aboard were taken off and the burning barge was put into shallow water near Stockton Island, where she was lost. Her lower hull remains one of the documented wreck sites of Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.
