Hazard
State Navy Brigantine · United States · Lost 1779 · Penobscot Bay & Midcoast Maine
A Massachusetts State Navy brigantine lost with the rest of the American fleet in the Penobscot River disaster of 1779.

The Vessel and Her Loss
Hazard was an armed brigantine of the Massachusetts State Navy, the state's own force of privateers and cruisers during the Revolutionary War. She took part in the 1779 Penobscot Expedition, Massachusetts's large but unsuccessful attempt to expel a British garrison from the Maine coast. When the expedition collapsed after a British relief squadron trapped the American fleet, Hazard was lost with most of the rest of the flotilla on 14 August 1779.
