The Vessel and Her Loss
DeWolf built the two-masted schooner M. Courtwright at Erie, Pennsylvania, in 1856. Carrying lumber, she became waterlogged near Racine in a gale on November 9, 1871, and was abandoned, drifting onto the beach just north of Kenosha a complete wreck. Workmen digging a water intake uncovered her buried hull in 1915; divers imaged her remains in 2019.
