The Vessel and Her Loss
Built in 1887 as the Cambria, the steel freighter later ran as the Lakeland. In December 1924 she began leaking badly in heavy weather off Door County; her crew was taken off before she sank. Her cargo of new automobiles went down with her, and the intact hull in deep water has drawn both salvage and technical diving interest.
