The Vessel and Her Loss
Kyle Spangler was a wooden sailing schooner built in 1856 for Great Lakes bulk trade. She sank after a collision in Thunder Bay on Lake Huron in November 1860. No lives were lost. The cold, deep water has preserved her hull remarkably well, making her a notable technical dive site today.
