The Vessel and Her Loss
James Carruthers was a steel bulk freighter launched at Collingwood, Ontario, in 1913, then the largest Canadian ship on the lakes. Months later, on 9 November 1913, she vanished with all hands on Lake Huron during the Great Storm, carrying wheat. Wreckage and bodies came ashore on the Ontario shore. The wreck has never been found.
