The Vessel and Her Loss
The second pilot schooner named J. Henry Edmunds was built in 1893 at Brooklyn, New York, for the Philadelphia Bay pilots, replacing an earlier vessel of the same name lost in 1892. She served the Delaware Bay pilotage for thirty-five years, the last schooner-rigged pilot boat still working the bay, before she was lost in bad weather outside Cape Henlopen in March 1928.
