HMS Guadeloupe
Frigate · United Kingdom · Lost 1781 · Chesapeake Bay
A British frigate scuttled in the York River in the final days of the Siege of Yorktown rather than let her fall into allied hands.

The Vessel and Her Loss
HMS Guadeloupe was a 28-gun Royal Navy frigate present at Yorktown during the 1781 siege. As the British position collapsed under Franco-American bombardment, her crew scuttled her in the York River. She is one of several Royal Navy vessels deliberately sunk or burned in the anchorage rather than surrendered intact. Her remains lie within the Yorktown shipwreck field.
