HMB Savannah
Armed Ship · Great Britain · Lost 1779 · The Georgia & South Carolina Coast
A British armed vessel scuttled alongside Venus in the Savannah River in 1779 to block the Franco-American siege fleet.

The Vessel and Her Loss
HMB Savannah was a British armed vessel present at Savannah, Georgia, during the American Revolution. In September 1779, as French and American forces besieged the city, she was deliberately sunk in the Savannah River together with the transport Venus to obstruct the channel against the allied fleet. Archaeological survey of the river has since examined wreck remains connected to this defense.
