The Vessel and Her Loss

Hazel was built at Washburn, Wisconsin, in 1893 as a wooden steam screw tug. She was chiefly used for rafting logs in the Chequamegon waters of Lake Superior. Registered at Marquette through 1920, she was listed as abandoned in 1921. The institutional account quotes James Keller describing abandonment when owner/captain Maxim moved to Park Falls. Her remains lie near shore east of Ashland’s Soo Line ore dock.
