The Vessel and Her Loss
The Granicus left Quebec City for Cork on 29 October 1828 carrying a cargo of timber, a crew, and several passengers including women and children. She wrecked on the rocky east coast of Anticosti Island. The survivors made their way to a Hudson's Bay-era relief post at Baie du Renard, only to find it had been emptied of provisions. None survived the winter; their remains were found by a Magdalen Islands whaling crew in May 1829.
