The Vessel and Her Loss
Cornelius Scotch built the two-masted schooner Four Brothers at Holland, Michigan, in 1870. A Milwaukee lumber schooner, she was owned at loss by Halvor Nelson. On October 28, 1892, a northwest gale struck near Hedgehog Harbor; Captain Gustav Mathison anchored, but the big anchor chain parted and she dragged ashore. Sailors from the schooner Annie Dow stripped her outfit and later sued for their pay.
