The Vessel and Her Loss
Built in Portland, Oregon, in 1943 as BC-1936 under the U.S. Maritime Commission's wartime barge program, the vessel was one of many wooden tow barges intended to move coal and other bulk commodities. She was sold in 1946 to the Foss Maritime Company and renamed Foss 75. She later came to rest in Lake Washington, where her heavy ponderosa-style timber construction remains well preserved at about 150 feet of depth.
