The Vessel and Her Loss
Etruria was a steel bulk freighter launched in 1902 that carried coal on the upper Great Lakes. On June 18, 1905, dense fog on Lake Huron led to a collision with the steamer Amasa Stone off Presque Isle. Etruria sank within minutes, though her entire crew survived. The wreck's location remained unknown until a 2011 sanctuary-led expedition located and identified it, revealing the ship intact and upside down in deep water.
