The Vessel and Her Loss
James Corlette built the three-masted scow schooner Ella Doak at Pentwater, Michigan, in 1868, sized to carry about 80,000 feet of lumber. On August 5, 1875, moored at Hedgehog Harbor after loading stone for Ludington, she was driven high and dry by a gale and her sides were crushed. Repair attempts failed; by late November salvagers removed her spars and rigging. Uninsured, she was a loss to owners M.L. Doak and O.P. Conger of Ahnapee.
