The Vessel and Her Loss
Built in 1858, the sidewheel steamer Eliza Anderson was among the earliest American steamships to run on Puget Sound, carrying passengers and mail for decades. During the Klondike Gold Rush she was pressed into northern service, ferrying stampeders toward Alaska. Aging and worn out, she ended her career abandoned at Dutch Harbor in the Aleutians around 1898.
