The Vessel and Her Loss
Effie M., a 72-ton schooner under Captain Frederick Morris, was homeward bound from the Labrador fishery in September 1907, carrying her crew and planters picked up along the way. Caught by a gale on 18 September, she became separated from a companion schooner, the Nelson, in the dark and struck the cliffs at Lead Cove, near Trinity Bay. No survivors were found; wreckage confirmed her identity soon after.
