The Vessel and Her Loss
The schooner Delmy, under Captain Davis and owned by William H. Stant of Messongo Creek, Accomack County, Virginia, was capsized off Fox Island in Tangier Sound during the same violent gale of February 12, 1877, that destroyed the schooner J. T. H. Coburn with all hands. Delmy's crew escaped safely in the vessel's small boat. A stove aboard set the overturned cabin on fire, adding to the damage, and her sails were torn to shreds. She was raised three days later, on February 15, with repairs estimated at $800 to $1,000.
