The Vessel and Her Loss
Delaware was a 318-foot iron-hulled schooner barge, a converted steamer hull towed rather than self-propelled. She sank off North Scituate, Massachusetts, near Collamore Ledge, during the Portland Gale of November 27, 1898, the same storm that destroyed the steamer Portland in Massachusetts Bay. Her wreckage now lies broken up and scattered among rocks in about 60 feet of water.
