CSS George Page
Gunboat · Confederate States of America · Lost 1862 · Chesapeake Bay
A converted Confederate steamer destroyed near Evansport on the Potomac as Southern forces abandoned their river batteries in early 1862.

The Vessel and Her Loss
George Page was a civilian steamer taken into Confederate service on the Potomac River, used in support of the Confederate batteries erected at Evansport (near Quantico Creek) to obstruct Union shipping. When Confederate forces withdrew from the Potomac line in early March 1862, the vessel was destroyed rather than left for Union capture. Her loss marked the end of the short-lived Confederate blockade of the lower Potomac.
