The Vessel and Her Loss
The 150-foot wooden canal schooner Bermuda sank in Munising Bay on October 15, 1870, carrying 488 tons of iron ore, and three of her crew were lost. She lies intact in about 20 feet of water in Grand Island's Murray Bay, one of the best-preserved shallow wrecks on Lake Superior. For years she was known locally as the Dreadnaught, Arnold or Granada until research proved her true name.
