The Vessel and Her Loss
Annie C. Maguire was a wooden barque that ran onto the rocks beside Portland Head Light on the night of 24 December 1886. Keeper Joshua Strout, his family and helpers rigged a line and brought all aboard ashore. The ship broke up within days. A painted inscription on the ledge still marks the wreck.
