The Vessel and Her Loss
Angel Gabriel carried English settlers toward New England in 1635, anchoring at the Pemaquid settlement in August. Most aboard went ashore for the night as guests of the villagers. A powerful, unnamed hurricane later called the Great Colonial Hurricane of 1635 struck that night, tearing the ship from her moorings and destroying her. Searches for the wreck in Pemaquid Harbor in the 1970s found no surviving artifacts.
