The Vessel and Her Loss
Built in 1871 at Trenton, Michigan, for the Peshtigo Lumber Company, Advance spent nearly three decades carrying lumber between Peshtigo and Chicago before later owners used her in the coal trade out of Sturgeon Bay. Her final loss, while carrying soft coal, is not precisely dated in the sources reviewed, but her wreck near Nasewaupee in Green Bay has been documented and surveyed by Wisconsin Historical Society archaeologists.
