Flathead Lake
Montana's inland sea
Flathead Lake, the largest natural fresh-water lake west of the Mississippi, supported its own small fleet of pleasure steamers and mail boats.
The lake's steamer era was short but colorful, centered on the timber town of Somers. Fire and misadventure claimed a few of its vessels, and at least one lies intact in the cold water of Somers Bay.
